Cleveland Gold Star Families Memorial Monument Dedication

NEOPAT was honored to be a part of the planning and dedication for the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument on August 31 at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affair Medical Center along with the Hershel “Woody” Williams Foundation.  Located at the corner of East 105th Street and East Boulevard in Cleveland, Ohio, the new Gold Star Monument is part of a campaign by Hershel “Woody” Williams to have similar markers places in communities across the country.  The Gold Star tradition started during World War I when families hung flags or banners bearing a blue star if a loved one was serving in the military.  That blue star changed to gold if the loved one was killed. The Cleveland monument will impact the current and future patients and family members, and passersby for years to come. Those that see the Monument will have the opportunity to reflect when they read the words inscribed on the monument: “Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, a tribute to Gold Star Families and Relatives who have sacrificed a Loved One for our Freedom.”
